The Galaxy**** Hotel in Kraków invites you to a unique exhibition opening by Jacek Jasiniak.
‘Eclipse’ signifies a pivotal moment when the obscuring of the old makes way for the emergence of the new; it is a moment when time stands still, a moment between the past and the future in which the process of transformation reaches its climax.
It is a time of inner transformation, requiring patience and acceptance of the fact that growth does not always take place in full light and clarity. It is a metaphor for the necessary shadow through which light passes in order to change form.
During an eclipse, two celestial bodies physically overlap. The old identity or the existing order clashes with what is inevitably coming. An eclipse cannot be stopped – it is governed by powerful, natural laws. Transformation is inevitable; it must happen, regardless of resistance. It has the dimension of destiny or the natural, albeit painful, cycle of life.
‘Eclipse’ is a promise that, once the darkness has passed, nothing will ever be the same again; it becomes an intimate tale of an identity crisis, a re-evaluation and the birth of a new ‘self’. It is the moment when one’s existing defence mechanisms and learned roles cease to function, and one is confronted with what one has hitherto repressed into the subconscious. During an eclipse, the world suddenly falls silent, the temperature drops, and the familiar landscape becomes alien. On a personal level, it is a state of limbo – the moment when the old version of you has already died, and the new one has not yet been born.
This pivotal moment is a phase of greatest vulnerability, but also of maximum creative potential. The most beautiful aspect of an eclipse is that the phase of total darkness is brief. It is immediately followed by the phenomenon known as the ‘diamond ring’ – the moment when the first rays of sunlight break through from behind the moon’s disc. Once you have come through the crisis, the light returns, but it is different now.
You, too, are different – enriched by the experience of darkness, stronger and more authentic.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“I’ve been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember.”
I wanted to be a professional artist, but various circumstances meant that this didn’t happen. It wasn’t until 20 years later that I returned to my true passion, which is painting, and in 2017 I completed a postgraduate art course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.
For me, artistic creation is both work and play, discovery and experimentation, a journey into a magical world and a fascinating adventure. This stems from my inner, primal need to release feelings and emotions, which I can express most fully in this way. Practising art is, for me, a path to freedom and fulfilment. My dream is for my art to become my main occupation in life.
I love experimenting with painting materials, striving to achieve an effect that would draw the viewer in and captivate them. I combine various techniques and materials, going beyond the plane of the canvas. I am also fascinated by the effects that can be achieved not only by painting but also by destroying.
