The Krakow Balloon Fiesta "Unplugged"

The Kraków Unplugged Balloon Fiesta took place on the dates stated – although there was a strong possibility that the event would be extended to 20 October, as the format of the Fiesta is directly dependent on the weather. In the end, the sky above Kraków was filled with balloons until Saturday 19 October 2024
The ideal conditions for launching hot-air balloons are:
* wind speed of 1–5 m/s
* no rainfall
* good visibility
* stable air currents and pressure
* moderate, cooler temperatures
The fiesta’s schedule was subject to change due to weather conditions.

An additional, undeniable attraction was the FULL MOON, which happened to fall on those very days in October.
The Krakow Balloon Fiesta "Unplugged"
The gathering of 15 hot-air balloon teams took place under a format that is unique on a global scale. We flew without the aid of electronic navigation, relying solely on a map and the pilot’s skills. Exactly as it was done in days gone by. The teams landed at designated locations in the centre of Kraków. These points were determined at the last minute – everything depended on the weather conditions.
BELOW WE PRESENT THE PLAN THAT APPLIED TO EVERYONE AT THE VERY BEGINNING – which, ultimately, differed slightly from the initial plans.
Here, we’ll take a brief look back at the past and share the rules that applied during the competition
The original FLIGHT TIMES WERE AS FOLLOWS:
The competition will begin (and end) at the largest meadow – covering 48 hectares – situated in the centre of our city, namely Błonia.
The first two days will mainly focus on organisational matters, team introductions and registration. The first competition flights will also take place.
A dozen or so colourful hot-air balloons floating above the capital of Małopolska will be an interesting spectacle for tourists and the residents of Kraków.
Flight dates:
17 October (Thursday) at 4.00 pm – training flight
18 October (Friday) at 6.00 am – competition flight
18 October (Friday) at 4.00 pm – competition flight
19 October (Saturday) 6.00 am – competition flight
19 October (Saturday) 4.00 pm – tethered flights
20 October (Sunday) 6.00 am – reserve date*
*alternative date in the event that a flight cannot take place on one of the earlier dates.
Tethered flights (using ropes) are an activity aimed primarily at spectators. Anyone keen to join in the fun is welcome on Saturday 19 October (information available on the day).
